Lady Gaga Will be Credited as Stefani Germanotta in 'A Star Is Born'

When Lady Gaga appears in the latest remake of A Star Is Born, she’ll do so without the guise of Mother Monster.
The pop superstar, who will play the central character Ally, is credited by her real name, Stefani Germanotta. Due out in May, the singer and actor will appear alongside Bradley Cooper, who plays Jackson Maine, a fading country music star who guides an aspiring young artist into the spotlight as he battles his own demons.
“It all comes down to this broken love story,” explains Cooper, who makes his directorial debut with the movie. “[We’re asking]: What happens when you’re 30 and the idea that ‘Maybe I’m not going to make it’ has crept into your artistic brain?” he tells EW. “There’s no better way to express that than through singing because there’s nowhere to hide when you’re singing.”
A Star Is Born is based on the 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, a study of a movie star who helps an aspiring young actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism plunges his own career into a downward spiral. It was remade again in 1954 by director George Cukor, with Judy Garland and James Mason headlining, and once more in 1976, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson starring.
